Melissa Candrasaputra

My name is Melissa Candrasaputra. I am a Singapore-based storyteller and multidisciplinary artist who uses the power of picture books to connect with children and people of all ages on an emotional level.

Growing up, I didn’t have picture books. My earliest memory of illustrated reads were newspaper comics and hand-me-down encyclopaedia sets. But I have always had an active imagination and my own vivid inner worlds. Being the “good girl” who took the “no crayon on the walls” instruction seriously, I found other ways to be creative. Beans and big seeds from the kitchen became my secret, scratch-free “chalk,” and mirrors and cabinet doors were my hidden “blackboards” filled with imaginary scenes no one else will ever see.

That’s how I learnt to blend imagination and reality when I tell Khai’s stories as his imaginary animal friends help him discover different feelings.

To date, I have co-written and illustrated three picture books, art directed an art anthology and told my stories to hundreds of children and parents at preschools and public libraries.

If you’d like to work with me on life-changing books, educational support materials or other exciting projects, do reach out via my contact page.
